We Attend Herts Young Homeless Event
On 20th June 2018, we joined the team from Herts Young Homeless for a charity breakfast, which took place in The Galleria shopping centre. The event gave local businesses and partners such as ourselves an insight into the charity’s upcoming plans and initiatives, as well as giving us the chance to meet the team behind the great work that they do for Hertfordshire’s youth.
One of the key points of the morning was their latest project, the ‘Live Life’ campaign, a service which has been set up by a group of former hyh service users who are keen to use their experience of homelessness to help others.
Live Life was brought in to replace hyh’s iPro (Involvement Project) and offers young homeless people throughout Hertfordshire the opportunity to have a say on homeless issues, offer feedback on their services, plan events, learn new skills, and the gain confidence and self-esteem to help them move forwards with their lives.
Another initiative that stood out to us was the ‘Sleep Out’ event, which will take place on Friday 7th December outside Oaklands College in St Albans. The aim of this sponsored campaign is to raise awareness of homelessness in the local area, while raise money to help those most in need.
Overall, we found the morning extremely inspiring – it was fantastic to see first hand the impact that Herts Young Homeless are having on young lives in our area and we’re looking forward to supporting them as our charity partner.
